Founder story
Sproutly exists because its developer got a renewal receipt. After years of paying a subscription for what was, underneath the AI gimmicks, a watering timer — and after one too many houseplants died anyway — he did the math: $36 a year, every year, to be told when to water a pothos. As an indie developer who’d already shipped pay-once apps, the fix was obvious: build the reminder engine properly, run everything on the phone so there are no server bills to pass on, charge $4.99 exactly once, and collect nothing about the user. The result is an app that keeps every plant on the phone that made it — and whose price never repeats.
